December 5, 2019 | News | No Comments

Badan beruang kutub diconteng T-34

December 5, 2019 | Animals | No Comments

As it swam towards them, one of the men grabbed the rope with a hook and cut it off with a knife.

Grateful to finally be free, the creature swam off, splashing its tail as if thanking the men for their act of kindness.

In the background, the fishermen could be heard saying ‘bye’ to it while exclaiming how happy it looked after being set free.

“She has difficulties understanding the language,” read a note from her daughter’s English teacher.

For Gwen Kaur, a Malaysian mum whose child had always “scored As in her English exams and won best reader awards since preschool,” it was appalling to learn that her daughter’s teacher had said otherwise.

One can only imagine Kaur’s surprise when she received a handwritten note from said English teacher explaining his remark — in broken English.

On Monday (Dec 2), Kaur shared a photo of the slip of paper in a Facebook group where it has since garnered over 400 comments from equally shocked netizens.

Govt has come up with TP rating for those studying in govt school. My girl was given TP 4 for English and remark given…

Posted by Gwen Kaur on Isnin, 2 Disember 2019

In her post, Kaur wrote that the teacher had given her daughter a grade of Tahap Penguasaan (TP) 4, which meant that the girl’s mastery of the English language was slightly above average, according to this classroom assessment guide.

TP ratings are similar to those of Mastery Learning, a popular alternative method of teaching found in after-school programmes such as Kumon.

When the concerned mum asked the teacher to explain the grading, he left her a note.

In it, the teacher gave the reasoning behind his “sentense”, saying that while he “no doubt to agree (sic)” that Kaur’s daughter was well-spoken, he found other issues with her ability.

He elaborated on how “English of knowledge not for communication (sic)” and that “Communication English is diffirent (sic) from knowledge English.”

Netizens were left speechless and baffled at his poor grammar and spelling, with many questioning what “English of knowledge” and “communication English” meant.

While some agreed that a TP rating was rather subjective as it’s based on a teacher’s assessment of a student’s abilities, rather than that of a standard exam paper, they felt that the teacher wasn’t even qualified to grade Kaur’s daughter with his poor command of English.

It’s been four weeks since the ban hammer struck and pedestrian paths were made devoid of e-scooters.

The ban, a result of the increasing numbers of errant riders and incidents involving e-scooters, caught many off guard, especially those who depended on their personal mobility devices (PMD) for their livelihood.

While many food delivery riders took to voicing their discontent during several meet-the-people sessions, one particular deliveryman found a silver lining after switching from his PMD to a regular bicycle — his deliveries doubled up as a fitness routine, helping him to shed 30kg.

In an interview with Today Online, 34-year-old Muhammad Imran shared that he used to make his deliveries on a e-scooter. However, in February, he made the switch to a bicycle after noting the growing discontent with e-scooters amongst the public.

It wasn’t an easy decision, to say the least. He weighed 120kg at that point in time and cycling wasn’t a simple joyride.

“When I first started, I would only do two orders, and then I would be extremely [tired]… I was not fit at all,” he recounted, going on to elaborate how he’d give up despite only earning $10 a day.

Now, Imran is much fitter and sees to 25 orders a day, the same amount as when he used to deliver on his e-scooter.

In the face of the e-scooter ban, he advised riders to allow themselves at least three months to adjust and get used to riding a bicycle. After all, he himself took around four to five months before things started to look up.

“Riders should give themselves some time, and think of it as a way to increase your fitness and also to help you to be [healthier compared] to those who are just riding around on e-scooters.”

As it would turn out, making deliveries on bicycles is touted as a job that burns the most amount of fat, with firefighters taking second place, according to research conducted by UK fitness professional Jane Wake.

“There’s an obvious cardio workout, however, all riders improve their balance, and both core and leg strength too,” she explained.

“Carrying orders from door to door whilst negotiating steps and staircases will improve agility, speed, upper and lower body strength which is why this really so good for the whole body.

Several other food deliverymen riding bicycles have reported similar results to Imran too. A 44-year-old rider in London, England, lost 16kg in 15 months purely by delivering food at night after work.

Meanwhile, Carlton Reid, a journalist, also from England, took up deliveries during his free time and similarly lost five kg in three months, despite only delivering for roughly three hours a night, three times a week.

She was crossing the road aiming to catch the last bus home when she was hit and run over by a taxi.

Madam Tay Kiat Eng, 65, a part-time KFC worker, died en route to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Police told The New Paper yesterday that the accident occurred along Bukit Timah Road towards Woodlands Road at around 12.28am on Nov 27 and a 69-year-old cab driver had been arrested.

Police said investigations are ongoing, and Mr Richard Poh, 29, the youngest of Madam Tay’s four children, is appealing for witnesses to come forward and help.

Mr Poh, who is studying in Melbourne, last saw his mother at lunch two years ago when he came back to Singapore for a short visit.

Upon receiving news of her passing, he scrambled to book the next available ticket to Singapore and arrived on the same day of the incident.

He said: “I was shell-shocked when I found out. I didn’t get to spend enough time with her, my biggest regret is not being able to come back to take care of her after I graduate.”

According to passers-by who reached out, two passengers almost immediately rushed out of the taxi after the collision to help Madam Tay, who was moaning in pain before losing unconscious.

ComfortDelGro’s group chief corporate communications officer, Ms Tammy Tan, said it has reached out to the deceased’s next of kin to assist them.

She added: “The hiring agreement of the cabby has also been terminated and we are assisting the Police in their investigations.”

Cuci surau pada cuti sekolah

December 4, 2019 | Viral | No Comments

“Saya tanya macam mana nak masuk pintu berkunci, namun mereka memberitahu suruh tarik je pintu pagar tu,” katanya.
