A father who killed his daughter’s 9-year-old classmate was sentenced to death by the Shangrao Intermediate People’s Court in Jiangxi province on Friday.

The court announced the sentence to the father identified only as Wang, and deprived him of his political rights for life.

Wang said he would not appeal to higher court.

On May 9, Wang’s daughter told him she was bullied by her classmate surnamed Liu in the Shangrao No 5 Primary School, and then Wang complained about it in a WeChat group of the class, according to the court.

Since Wang had a bad temper, his wife took the initiative to communicate with the class head and Liu’s parents, hoping to solve the problem by rearranging the children’s seats, the court said.

The next morning, Wang took his daughter to school, but got angry when he discovered that Liu’s parents were not there, even though his wife had told him the problem had been resolved, the court was told.

Wang sent his daughter back home, and bought a knife to school, it said.

Later, Wang stormed into the classroom and stabbed Liu, who had moved out of his original seat, with the knife more than 10 times, and then carried him out of the classroom and dropped him on the ground, it said, adding Liu died at the hospital.

“Wang didn’t want the relationship between his daughter and her classmate to improve, and only wanted revenge. His killing of the boy, who was only 9, constitutes the crime of intentional homicide,” the court said in its ruling.

Although Wang confessed to the crime, his cruel behaviour impacted the society negatively and he was not forgiven by the victim’s family, “we therefore decided not to be lenient in punishing him,” the ruling added.

Vehicle break-ins and thefts rampant in KL park

November 28, 2019 | Crime, News | No Comments

Joggers at the Taman Tasik Menjalara in Kepong are worried for their safety when visiting their neighbourhood park.

The park, which opens as early as 6am, is popular with residents but they fear for their well-being as there have been incidents of car thefts and break-ins which have become rampant since September.

“Many of my friends have fallen victim to car break-ins where their personal belongings were stolen, ” said Cheah Ah Min.

The 64-year-old said he decided not to drive to the park after realising it was no longer safe to leave his vehicle at the parking lot unguarded.

“The cases are very frequent and I don’t want to be stressed out thinking whether or not someone would damage my car while I am out at my morning walk, ” said Cheah.

He said several motorcyclists also often used the joggers footpath as a shortcut from Medan Putra business centre to Jalan 1/62A which he felt posed a danger to visitors, especially young children.

Tan Kuang Huah said he preferred visiting the park later in the morning to prevent untoward incidents from happening.

“We used to visit the park before sunrise and head for breakfast together but now we don’t, ” said Tan, adding that he and his family only visit the park after 8am.

Other park-goers also said they had to be more vigilant when visiting the recreation spot and park their vehicles at more visible spots so they could keep an eye on their vehicles from afar.

Kepong Community Service Centre head Yee Poh Ping said he received many complaints from park-goers.

He said the 15-year-old park had become a hotspot for thefts in recent months.

“Most of them had their valuables stolen while motorcycle owners also lost their helmets to the thieves, ” said Yee, adding that the carpark section was usually dark in the early hours of the morning.

Some motorcyclists had resorted to parking along the jogging path but summonses were issued by Kuala Lumpur City Hall for blocking joggers in the park.

Yee said DBKL should brighten up the park by installing more street lamps and build a guardhouse at the entrance of Jalan 1/62A nearby Persiaran Datuk Shamsuddin Naim and SR Agama Al-Ghazali.

“The other entrance on Lorong 1/6A has a guardhouse with two guards but the one here (Jalan 1/62A) has none,” he said, adding that he informed DBKL Landscape and Recreational Development Department director Suhana Abd Malek of his suggestions which also included upgrading several of the park facilities which had deteriorated over time.

A night of Halloween fun at Marina Bay Sands (MBS) turned to real horror when three partygoers were badly injured by an attacker allegedly wielding a sword in its carpark last Sunday (Oct 27).

The three male victims sustained serious injuries including broken bones and deep cuts. One man’s ear was almost severed in the brutal pre-dawn slashing.

One of the three, who gave his name only as Eugene, told The Straits Times on Saturday that their group of eight had been heading home at around 6am after a Halloween-themed party at nightclub Marquee when they were accosted.

While in the basement carpark of the integrated resort, a man dressed in a doctor’s coat allegedly charged at him, said Eugene, 25.

“At first I thought it was one of those Halloween jump scare kind of things,” he said, describing the blade as resembling a short sword. The sword was swung so hard, Eugene sustained broken bones in both legs.

He showed ST gashes on his forehead, chin and ear, part of which had been left dangling and had to be stitched back together.

Eugene, a manager, said of his friend: “He was lying in a pool of blood, face turned purple… thankfully one of my friends is a nurse, and she managed to stem the bleeding.”

Another friend who was filming the incident on his phone was beaten by another attacker and sustained bruises and a sprain, he said.

The police confirmed the incident, saying it responded to an incident at 1 Bayfront Avenue at about 6.15am on Oct 27.

In the statement, police said three male victims, aged between 25 and 34, were conveyed conscious to Singapore General Hospital. Police subsequently identified and arrested three men, aged between 22 and 24, in connection with the case.

They were charged last Wednesday (Oct 30) for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon with common intention, which carries a sentence of up to seven years’ imprisonment as well as a possible fine and caning.

The trio are in remand and due to appear in court on Nov 6.

Eugene, who had screws inserted in his left leg to join the broken bones, was discharged from the hospital on Friday. Doctors say it will be at least a year before he will be able to walk again.

Eugene and Wei said that they were disappointed with how MBS handled the matter, both during the incident and in the days after.

A security guard arrived on scene only about 30 minutes after the incident, after being alerted by a friend of the victims who had gone looking for help, Eugene claimed.

While the police and ambulance arrived within 10 minutes of being called, there was a slight delay in locating them within the car park.

“If security knew this was happening under their noses, they would have been able to direct them to us,” he said.

Eugene added that he had contacted MBS on Thursday to ask what was being done about the incident and a customer service officer referred him to the police.

Replying to queries, an MBS spokesman said it was alerted to the incident at 6.20am on Oct 27 and responded immediately.

“We take a serious view of this case and are working closely with the Police in its ongoing investigations,” she said.
