A driver in a Perodua Axia was caught on camera going against the direction of traffic on the highway
The Star reported that the incident took place yesterday, 10 November, at KM355.4 of the North-South Expressway.
The video circulating Facebook, which shows the Perodua Axia crashing head-on with another car before being hit by a trailer, was recorded by another man driving the opposite lane.
Police explained that the man was crossing state borders while under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) and started driving against traffic in order to avoid a police roadblock
Tapah district police chief Supt Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail told The Star that the driver is a 34-year-old from Klang, Selangor, who was desperate to go home for Deepavali in Bidor, Perak.
While on his journey, he spotted a police roadblock at the exit of the Sungkai toll and then decided to reverse back and drive against the traffic flow heading south.
Azharuddin said, “While doing so, a driver of a Toyota Rush on the right lane was unable to avoid the Axia, and crashed head-on and spun a few times. Meanwhile, a trailer was also unable to avoid the car and crashed into it.”
All the people involved in the accident escaped without any injuries
Meanwhile, The Star also reported that the driver had been arrested.
He was detained at his house in Bidor at about 11am today, 12 November, and the case will be investigated under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act.
