Last Thursday, 5 November, a man trespassed into his neighbour’s house and slashed a dog to death

According to New Straits Times, the incident took place at 9.30pm at Taman Maju in Jasin, Melaka.

District police chief DSP Mispani Hamdan said the 50-year-old housewife only realised what was going on after checking on her dog who was barking through her bedroom window.

He said the housewife was horrified to see her 37-year-old neighbour attacking her dog with a parang.

“When the woman saw what the suspect was doing to her dog, she was afraid to go out to save it,” Mispani said

Based on an initial report, the suspect managed to enter the house because the gate was not locked, reported Sinar Harian.

After entering the house, the suspect went berserk and stabbed the dog with a parang.

Mispani Hamdan said the dog’s intestines spilled out and had survived the attack for a while, before succumbing to its injuries a few hours later.

“The suspect was seen to be intoxicated when he left his neighbour’s compound and started shouting outside the house,” he added.

Following the attack, the man, who is unemployed, has been arrested and will be remanded for four days to assist in the investigation

The police are currently investigating the case under Section 448 and Section 428 of the Penal Code for trespassing and for committing mischief by killing an animal.

If convicted, the suspect will face up to three years’ jail, a fine, or both for each offence.

Meanwhile, according to the Malaysia Animal Association’s official Facebook page, authorities had to dig the body of the dog out of its grave for the purpose of a post-mortem.

The body was brought to the Salak Tinggi Veterinary Laboratory in Selangor by a team of officers from Melaka’s Department of Veterinary Services (DVS).
