Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa just announced that Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan residents are now allowed to set up shop anywhere within these territories

This policy will take effect starting 15 November until 15 April.

The minister told Sinar Harian, “I declare all federal territories as ‘free trade areas’. Everyone can do business, regardless of whether full-time or part-time, and can choose a suitable location. For example, in front of their home or at the roadside in a housing area.”

Those interested will have to apply for a temporary static hawker licence on the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) website. The licence is free of charge and it will be automatically approved throughout the six-month period.

According to Free Malaysia Today, Annuar Musa said that the licence is needed to keep a record of all the traders.

He explained, “We need their data for the long term. This is on the condition that their business does not result in any complaints from the public, do not block people’s housing areas, occupy parking lots without permission, or cause litter.”

Traders must ensure the cleanliness of the capital while refraining from operating in locations which could compromise public safety or cause traffic congestion

Annuar has discussed the matter with the Resident Representative Council (MPPWP) in Kuala Lumpur to ensure that community-level monitoring will be conducted, as reported by Bernama.
