Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has announced new guidelines and regulations for liquor licence applications

According to the guidelines, sundry shops, convenience stores, and traditional Chinese medicine shops in Kuala Lumpur are prohibited from selling hard liquor, effective 1 October 2021.

Hence, premises that sell hard liquor can only renew their liquor licences until 30 September 2021.

However, liquor products used in traditional medicine will be exempted. Beer can still be sold at these premises between 7am and 9pm but they must be placed separately from other beverages.

Premises that sell hard liquor must also not face any police stations, schools, hospitals, or places of worship

Wholesalers, pubs, hotels, bars, restaurants, warehouses, supermarkets, hypermarkets, and promotional events that serve liquor are considered eligible for a licence.

Pubs, bars, and restaurants can sell liquor from 10am to 12am. Extension of sales until 2am can be made depending on the approved time limit given and entertainment hours of the premises.

Also, premises that allow alcohol consumption on location must display a blue liquor licence while businesses that only sell liquor for takeaway must display a yellow licence.
